Don't Buy Fake Tiffany
For some years now, Chinese factories have been pumping out replicas of Tiffany sterling silver jewelry. At first they just sold the pieces (usually the famous heart charm bracelets and necklaces) in bulk to unscrupulous wholesale buyers in the U.S., but quickly grew more sophisticated in their fraud. Now they provide "Tiffany" turquoise boxes, pouches, jewelry care cards and polishing cloths. Frankly we're amazed they don't print phony department store receipts and send those along, too.
The prices on these faux Tiffany items are very attractive. If you get the idea that you can make some money selling them on eBay, you won't be the first to have thought of it. But think again.
The famous jeweler monitors eBay regularly, using a system its officials refuse to describe, but which almost certainly involves the use of detectives posing as genuine bidders. In one five-month period Tiffany notified eBay of 19,000 efforts to sell suspected fake T & Co. goods, about 125 a day. All were removed by eBay. Sellers were removed as well.
